Terms of Service

The agreement between you and ResumeBenchmark when you use our products.

The short version. By using ResumeBenchmark you agree to these terms. We provide evidence-based resume benchmarking through a web application; you provide your own resume and target jobs. Be honest, do not abuse the service, pay for what you use, and we'll do our best to give you accurate, transparent feedback. We do not promise hiring outcomes - only a clearer picture of how your resume aligns with specific jobs.

01 Acceptance of these terms

These Terms of Service (the Terms) form a binding agreement between you and ResumeBenchmark (we, us, our) governing your access to and use of the ResumeBenchmark website, web application, and related services (the Service).

By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, our Cookies & Tracking Policy, and our Acceptable Use Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, including a school, bootcamp, or career-services program on a sales-assisted plan, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

02 Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. We use Clerk for authentication, and some account changes may require you to re-authenticate or verify your email address before they take effect.

Keep your profile information accurate and let us know if your account is accessed without your permission. We may suspend access if we reasonably believe your account has been compromised or used in violation of these Terms.

03 Acceptable use

You may use the Service to benchmark your own resume against jobs you are targeting, compare multiple roles, and share reports with people who are helping you improve your candidacy.

  • Submit only resumes and job descriptions you are allowed to use.
  • Do not scrape reports, evidence, or scoring data in bulk.
  • Do not reverse engineer the scoring method, prompts, or model outputs.
  • Do not bypass usage limits, quotas, or payment controls.
  • Do not use the Service to harass, impersonate, or defame anyone.
  • Do not use outputs from the Service to build a competing product.

If you are using a sales-assisted plan on behalf of a program or organization, you may only evaluate candidates you are authorized to support and only with their knowledge and consent.

04 Your content

You retain ownership of the resumes, job descriptions, and any other content you submit. You grant us the limited rights needed to process that content, generate benchmark results, store your run history, and provide the Service.

We do not claim ownership of your source content. We may keep derived artifacts such as reports and benchmark summaries for as long as your account remains active, or longer where necessary for legal, security, or billing reasons.

We do not use your resume or job content to train general-purpose AI models without a separate opt-in.

05 Billing & subscriptions

The current self-serve plans are Free and Starter. Starter is billed through Stripe. Each benchmark uses 1 credit. Credits reset on your renewal date, and the credit count shown in the app reflects the current billing period.

If you upgrade, downgrade, cancel, or otherwise change your subscription, the new terms will apply when Stripe confirms the change. Taxes, proration, and any refund policy follow the billing details shown in your account or in Stripe at the time of purchase.

If you need a sales-assisted arrangement beyond the self-serve plans, contact us directly. We will not present that as a selectable in-app tier.

06 Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an as is and as available basis. We aim to make scoring and evidence transparent, but no benchmark result guarantees a hiring outcome, an interview, or a particular employer response.

We do not warrant that the Service will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely free of inaccuracies in model-generated output. Use judgment when interpreting reports and recommendations.

07 Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms, violate the AUP, fail to pay amounts due, or use the Service in a way that creates risk for us, other users, or the integrity of the Service.

Where practical, we will try to explain what happened and give you a path to resolve the issue unless we are required to act immediately.

08 Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will update the effective date and, where reasonable, notify you in the product or by email. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Need the latest terms? We keep the current version here. If you need help understanding a clause, email hello@resumebenchmark.app.

Privacy Policy

How we handle your resume content, account information, and the limited data we need to run the service.

The short version. We collect the data you give us (resume content, job descriptions, account info) and the minimum metadata we need to run the service. We use it to generate your reports, run the service, and improve product quality - not to sell to advertisers, train general-purpose AI, or hand to recruiters. You can delete your data anytime from your dashboard.

01 Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how ResumeBenchmark collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Service. It applies to our website and web application.

This policy works alongside our Terms of Service and Cookies & Tracking Policy.

02 Information we collect

Information you provide

Account information
Email address, name if provided, and authentication data. Authentication is handled by Clerk; we receive a user identifier and basic profile fields.
Benchmark content
Resume text or PDFs you upload, job descriptions you paste or attach, and URLs you provide. This is the core input to the Service.
Billing information
Subscription tier, billing period, and payment metadata. Card details are handled directly by Stripe and never stored on our servers.
Communications
Messages you send to support, feedback you submit, and any communications you initiate with us.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage metadata. Pages you visit, features you use, sign-in events, and timing data needed to operate and improve the Service.
  • Device & technical data. Browser type, operating system, IP address, and similar signals needed to deliver the Service securely.
  • Cookies & similar. See our Cookies & Tracking Policy for full details.

03 How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service, including running benchmarks, generating reports, and storing your benchmark history.
  • Operate, secure, and improve the Service, including diagnosing errors and preventing abuse.
  • Communicate with you about your account, service changes, and product updates that you opt into separately.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

04 How AI processing works

Resume and job description content is sent through our backend to model providers so the Service can extract structure, score alignment, and generate reports. Prompts and internal routing are not exposed to other users.

We minimize what we send where practical, but the content you submit may still include personal information. We use vendors that are contractually bound to process data for us, not for their own advertising purposes.

No general-purpose training: We do not use your resume or job content to train public AI models without your separate consent.

05 Sharing & processors

We share information only with service providers and in limited situations required to operate the Service:

  • Clerk for authentication and account management.
  • Stripe for billing, checkout, and subscription management.
  • Model providers we use to process resume and job content.
  • Cloud and infrastructure providers that host the application and storage.
  • Analytics tooling, only where allowed by your cookie choices.

06 Retention & deletion

We keep benchmark history and account data while your account is active so you can revisit prior runs. You can delete benchmarks and remove your account using the controls in the app, and we may also retain some records for legal, security, or billing reasons.

When you delete content, we remove it from active product surfaces and retain only what is reasonably needed for backups, audit trails, or legal obligations.

07 Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information. You can also manage cookie preferences in the app.

To request deletion or ask about your data, visit your Account or Dashboard, or email privacy@resumebenchmark.app.

08 Security & transfers

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect the Service, but no system is perfectly secure. If we transfer data across borders, we do so using appropriate contractual and technical measures where required.

09 Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date and, where appropriate, notify you in the product or by email.

Want to delete data now? Use the controls on your Dashboard and Account pages, or email privacy@resumebenchmark.app.

Cookies & Tracking

What we store in your browser, why, and how to change your preferences.

The short version. We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and the app working. We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or session replay.

01 What we use cookies for

Cookies and similar technologies help the Service keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand usage in aggregate. We do not use them to build advertising profiles or follow you across unrelated websites.

Below is a complete inventory of what we set.

02 Strictly necessary

No consent required: these cookies and storage entries keep the app working and cannot be disabled without breaking core features.
__sessionClerk · session
Keeps you signed in. Set by Clerk, our authentication provider. Cleared when you sign out.
rb-consentlocalStorage · 1 year
Stores your cookie preferences so we do not re-prompt you on every visit.
rb-themelocalStorage · persistent
Stores your light, dark, or system theme preference until you clear browser data.
__stripe_*Stripe · checkout/billing
Set by Stripe during checkout and billing-portal sessions for fraud prevention and integrity.

03 Analytics

Analytics are optional and only run when you consent. We use them to understand which pages and features are helpful so we can make the product better.

We keep analytics limited to product usage and performance. We do not run advertising cookies or session replay tools in the current build.

Choice matters: if you choose Necessary only, analytics stays off until you change your preference in Cookie settings.

04 Marketing

We do not currently use marketing or advertising cookies on the app. If that changes in the future, we will update this policy and the cookie preference controls before enabling them.

05 Managing your choices

You can review or change your cookie preference at any time from the cookie settings control in the footer, in the account page, or through the banner if you have not already made a choice.

If you clear your browser storage, we may show the banner again. Necessary storage is still required for authentication and billing.

Open Cookie settings: use the cookie preferences dialog to change analytics consent without leaving the page.

Acceptable Use

What you can and cannot do with ResumeBenchmark. Short, specific, and written in plain language.

The short version. Use it for what it's built for: evaluating your own resume against jobs you're targeting. Do not submit other people's resumes without permission, do not scrape or reverse-engineer the scoring, and do not try to bypass usage limits. Reasonable, considerate use is welcome.

01 Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy (the AUP) supplements the Terms of Service and describes what we consider appropriate use of the Service. It applies to all users on all plans.

02 Fine to do

  • Run benchmarks for your own resume against jobs you are personally targeting.
  • On a sales-assisted plan, run benchmarks for candidates your organization actively supports, with their knowledge and consent.
  • Iterate and compare multiple resume versions or multiple jobs within your plan limits.
  • Share reports with mentors, professors, counselors, or peers for feedback.
  • Automate your own workflow within the plan limits and without bypassing protections.

03 What is not allowed

  • Submitting other people's resumes without their consent.
  • Bulk scraping of reports, evidence, scoring data, or any other system output.
  • Reverse engineering the scoring methodology, prompts, or model interactions.
  • Bypassing usage limits by creating multiple accounts, sharing one account across many users, or circumventing plan quotas.
  • Harassing, defaming, or impersonating any individual or organization.
  • Submitting content you do not have the right to use, including content covered by NDAs that prohibit external processing.
  • Attempting to disrupt the Service through malformed inputs, denial-of-service patterns, or similar abuse.
  • Building a competing product using outputs from the Service.

04 A note on automation

Automation is not inherently bad. Technical users often script their workflows, and that is fine within the plan limits. What we prohibit is bulk extraction, reverse engineering, and circumvention.

If you are unsure whether your use case fits, contact us before building. We would rather answer a quick email than take action after the fact.

Questions before you build something? Email hello@resumebenchmark.app.

05 Enforcement

If you violate this AUP, we may take action proportionate to the issue, including warning you, rate-limiting your account, suspending features, or terminating access. For serious or repeated violations, we may terminate access immediately.

Where reasonably possible, we will tell you what prompted the action and give you a path to resolve it.

06 Reporting abuse

If you believe someone is using ResumeBenchmark to abuse the service or violate someone's rights, report it to abuse@resumebenchmark.app. Include enough detail for us to investigate.

Questions before you build something? Email hello@resumebenchmark.app.
